The Kent Story

The Kent Fillies were originally formed as the Maidstone Invicta in 1948, adopting Orchid and Brown as the team colours. Having been one of the thirty-six UK teams based in Essex in the 1948 season, they relocated to their home town in 1949, changing their name to the Kent Invicta in the process. Another name change to Fillies followed for the first major league season in 1951.

The Fillies struggled in the first season, finishing tenth of the twelve teams and failing to progress to the latter stages. A winter of recruitment paid dividends when they reached the quarter finals in 1952. That proved to be as good as it got for the Fillies who eventually suffered demotion in 1959
