The Nord story

A Gridball franchise was issued to the French department of Nord in 1951, with the team initially playing as the Lille Douges, meaning Mastifs in 1953. In 1956 the club were admitted to the senior Supergrid competition for the first time, playing as Nord and changing the name to Lys, meaning Lily's. Having failed to qualify in the first two editions, they finally made it to Elite Gridball in 1958 putting in a creditable showing before just missing out on the Play-offs. The Lilys are now in their fourth Elite campaign, but have spent most of their time trying to avoid demotion. The club's best achievement came in the cup in 1960, reaching the quarter finals.
